What is 5-MAPB?

5-(2-methylaminopropyl)benzofuran (5-MAPB) is a synthetic empathogen of the substituted benzofuran class of chemicals. Benzofurans generally produce a sense of euphoria, empathy and stimulation as well as mildly hallucinogenic effects. This chemical class includes other chemicals such as 5-APB, 4-APB and 6-APB among others. 5-MAPB is the N-methylated form of 5-APB, analogous to how MDMA is the N-methylated form of MDA.

5-MAPB in particular is known for its empathogenic and euphoric properties. It is generally seen as less stimulating and more entactogenic than 6-APB.

What are the effects of 5-MAPB?

5-(2-methylaminopropyl)benzofuran is a triple reuptake inhibitor for the monoamines norepinephrine, dopamine (likely the cause of its stimulating effects) and serotonin (presumably leading to its empathogenic/euphoric effects) as well as being an agonist for the 5-HT2A and 5-HT2B receptors (most likely the cause of its mildly hallucinogenic effects). Some have speculated that 5-MAPB also works as a releasing agent for the previously mentioned neurotransmitters.
